First Beach Day

Today was the first day we have ever taken Ryan to the beach. I didn't think he would care too much for it last year as he was kind of afraid of water. But especially lately he has been super into water. To the point where you cannot even shower without fear of a little one joining you. It was pretty funny. One morning I was showering and washing my face, I turned around and there was Ryan, clothes and all, just sitting in the shower with me. It was so funny! And now every chance he gets, he wants to be in the water.

Anyway, today was hot here, in the 90's. Ryan has really fair skin so I didn't want to take him to the beach when the sun was the strongest, plus I wanted to go as a family. So Sean and I decided after dinner we would head over. That is the nice thing about living a half hour from the beach, you can pretty much go whenever :)

So around 5:30 we headed to York Beach, and ended up going to Short Sands just because tide was coming in and it has much easier parking for taking a kid out of the car.

When we first got there, Ryan seemed really confused why I was taking his shoes off. He looked at me like, "mom, I need shoes to play outside, duh!" So I had to explain to him that we were at the beach and here we go barefoot!

I got him out of his carseat and put him in the sand. He looked around slyly, almost seeming to be thinking, "Am I allowed to do this?!?" With a little encouragement, he slowly realized that here was a no holds bar, and he could run to his hearts content. I think he was in his heaven.

He just ran and ran and ran for all he was worth. When he discovered he could go in the water, he LOVED it and would go in and run out when the waves would come in. All in all I think we had a hit with the day. It was a great way to end the evening.
